As many prepare for the celebration of Imbolc, Candlemas, Groundhog’s Day, Carnivale, Mardi Gras and other festivities this season, we are reminded of just why these seasonal times of celebration are historically important. Even though many of these events take a sideline in mainstream culture throughout the West, it does seem fitting for us to revisit opportunities to pause and reflect on their significance and meaning – and to even re-imagine why we might want to pursue a reinvigoration of this halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox.
