Emily McKown, seminarian at United Theological Seminary, will speak on Dynamic Attunement: A Music-based, Trauma-informed Theology. How does the practice of making music inform our methods and practice of spiritual care in community? Drawing on her two degrees, Interreligious Chaplaincy and Arts & Theology, Emily’s reflection is inspired from her experiences as a collaborative musician and spiritual care provider working with a variety of genres and communities. Emily will share portions of her master’s thesis and some original music to convey her central message: to be a healing force in a traumatized world, one must be able to articulate their distinction and particularity to work effectively and flexibly across differences.
Emily McKown is U.U. ministerial aspirant and singer-songwriter with a passion for community-building through music. She is pursuing a dual degree Master of Divinity/Master of Arts at United Theological Seminary, which she expects to receive this Spring. Emily now lives in Urbana, Illinois with her husband, her bandmates, dog, cat, and many, many plants on a 2-acre homestead. Emily grew up attending Dakota U.U. and is delighted to return and share her insights.
